2025 KRICT ChemDX Hackathon

We are pleased to announce the upcoming "2025 KRICT ChemDX Hackathon", an international event hosted by the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) with the support of the Digital Chemical Research Center. The program will promote the development of innovative technologies using the ChemDX chemical database developed by the Digital Chemical Research Center.

The event will occur on the following date and at the venue.

  • Date: Tue., Aug. 19, 2025, 09:00 AM ~ Fri., Aug. 22, 2025, 06:00 PM
  • Venue: Seminar room 1, Yonsei Engineering Research Park, Yonsei University, Seoul
  • Format: Offline
  • Language: English

Eligibility

  • graduate students and early-career postdoctoral researchers in chemistry, physics, and materials who possess intermediate or higher programming skills related to AI and data are encouraged to participate.

Registration

  • Online Link
  • Registration period: ~2025.8.10
  • Approximately 20–25 participants will be selected based on the application review.

Objective

The hackathon aims to promote the development of data utilization technologies and foster the ecosystem for material data usage by leveraging the ChemDX database, which has been developed by the Digital Chemical Research Center of KRICT. This initiative is part of the broader effort to establish a material research data ecosystem platform.

  • ChemDX: a web-based chemistry-related research data platform that provides specialized data platforms open to the public:
    • MatDX, Materials Data eXplorer
    • ChemAI, AI Platform for Chemistry

Hackathon Topics

  1. Development of machine learning models using the ChemDX platform
  2. Development and enhancement of database functionalities on the ChemDX platform
  3. Development of data visualization features for the ChemDX platform
  4. Proposing concepts for integrating data on the ChemDX platform

For these topics, we will prepare example problems along with relevant example datasets. Participants are encouraged to work on these example problems during the hackathon. If desired, participants are also welcome to pursue their own project ideas related to the ChemDX platform.

Self-evaluation

  • Recognition: This year we will have self-reflection and peer feedback.

  • Evaluation Format:

    • All participants will engage in a brief peer-review session following final presentations.
    • Every team will have an opportunity to reflect on their own outcomes and share insights from their experience.
  • Acknowledgement:

    • All participants who complete the full program will receive an official Certificate of Participation from the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT).
    • All outcomes will be published and available on the ChemDX platform.
    • Depending on the quality of outcomes, we are going to prepare a proceeding paper to be published as a record.
